Username Amnesty Results

Afternoon,

I hope to be able to make the following username changes today at some point.

These usernames ARE NOT LIVE and you should NOT see or be able to use them YET.

I will EMAIL those of you who have usernames which have changed.

I'm afraid that for those of you who have selected a username that already exists (however unused it is) - we can't make the change; sorry! The reasons a varied, but all in all it's a bit of a privacy problem to go in and delete an account which belongs to someone else just because you want their username. We did look at options for how to do this, but we couldn't come to anything satisfactory.

But in answer to your questions, from what I gather Ed's said (hey, that rhymed!)this batch of name changes are done for now, no more for the time being. And he (or the techies, probably) do them not you the user.

For the time being you're stuck with your current name,which I prefer by the way.

If it's any consolation to you, im not allowed to change to my chosen one anyway :-(

Dear Ed,

You state there was a previous incarnation of "robknot". Can my new name be "Robknot" or can the system not tell the difference?

If not can you revert to my second choice I mentioned in the original thread of "Kirky" as other peeps refer to me as that anyway.

The system can't tell the difference, Captin. Usernames always appear in the URLs of people's profiles in lowercase. (e.g. 'buenchico', rather than 'Buenchico', in mine). So there can't be two users with names that are identical apart from the use of capitals.

Thank you all for your answers and comments, particularly from BOO for explaining that we sad people are stuck with our chosen on-line names. My name of "solvitquick" was a terrible choice as I seldom solve AB problems quickly. But bugger it! I'll just continue in my self-imposed humiliation.
Naughty ABed for raising false hopes. Blog should have been dated April 1st not Feb 14th, lol. Why the hell did ed start all this?
