Was in local hospital as a day case for a simple procedure. Nurse said it wasn't worth writing up the label on the wall behind my bed, so for my short visit I was known as bed 5. It didn't bother me in the slightest but it is rather impersonal being referred to by number.

When I read the title to this thread I see a dirty side to its meaning. I'm not going to say what but I think it's obvious. Say no more dizmo.
That is disgusting, totally unacceptable, needs "whistle blowing" and i hope is not typical of the trend to which Socialised Medicine is heading.

Sqad the good news was the hospital runs a full list in the cath lab on a Sunday. I had my uneventful angiogram and the care and attention paid to Bed 5 was great, as was lunch.
McM....well that bit was excellent.................
I think that's shocking, mcmouse - I'd have complained
I am not a number - I am a free man. (The Prisoner tv long ago)
Number 5 alive (- Short Circuit (film))
Ooh :0/ i have the name up in green pen before you come then changed to black when you arrive @ ur bed & on the main board....which is shortly being changed to some sort of large tv screen thingy!

Thats not very nice- good to have names up to identify you!! Lets you chat to others in room etc too. Oh dear xx
I hope the patient in bed 5 had a good result from his angiogram . and is feeling well :)
Not good could lead too all sorts of confusion.....I asked if I could have minty on mine! They laughed but said no...
Too ? Predictive thingy..must proof read more before posting
in the '' olden days'' the name tags above the beds had the patients name and DOA ( date of admission ) a very worried elderly patient asked me if he was indeed dead on arrival ? poor soul :(
When I went in as a day case to have my gallbladder out I was directed to one bed then, I think also because we were all numbered up according to their records, moved me to...Bed 13...

I remember asking one of the nurses after my op if the notes said how many gallstones there had been (random curiosity!). She came back and said they said no gallstones which kinda floored me, thinking what the hell had I been going through before having the op etc... and them being seen on a scan. She re-checked the notes and came back to say it actually meant I have no gallstones...NOW!

I did have a good few moments of panic inbetween!
. agree Sqad

Nurses arent taught to save time money and effort in these ways
and identity of the patient is important
not an optional time consuming extra.

I hope your wristband didnt say Bed 5.....

dont complain just write a letter saying this is a simple way to improve quality and safety - and cheap too....
Never mind health, what about safety? Lax practice, bad procedure. Needs reporting.
