My boyfriend has told his children no body art or piercings until they are over the age of consent as he doesn't like either of them. He has 3 children and the older one has not felt the need , however the middle child has turned up for a visit sporting a great tattoo flower on her wrist. My boyfriend is most angry, he thought he had the law on his side. Now apart from the fact that the blooming thing is now a permanent feature he is feeling so angry with the ex wife who consented to it. I am not looking for advice, just to let off steam !!!

If this is a real tattoo and if this was a "proper" tattoo artist, the he/she will be licenced! In this case they may well lose their licence for going against the law, which, as I have just checked, is indeed no tattoos allowed on people under 18 yrs of age!!!
Yes, report the tattooist, Flump!
I have absolutely nothing against tattoo's, but on a 15 year old it's just wrong. I'm absolutely gobsmacked that the mother consented to it, to be honest.
Surely at 15, there's a higher chance you'll regret what you had done at a later stage. I had my first tattoo at 18, and I hated it so much 5 years later, I had to save up and have it removed.
There's always a new 'trend', and whilst a tattoo to the wrist may be fashionable right now, chances are it won't be in ten years time.
Also, having one in such a noticeable place, may well affect her when it comes to things like careers.

Thanks for your answers, while we are still reeling it helps to let off steam on here !! I am more concerned what the school is going to have to say about it when she goes back next week. It is not in a position to be covered .
Too right flump, I hadn't thought of that! Hope her mother gets a lot of hassle about this and the child doesn't!
Even with adult consent its illegal, all the decent tattooist would have turned her away straight away. She'll probably hate it before she turns 18 so its her own fault
JustJenni, the reason it is illegal to tattoo minors is because they are too immature to make such decisions. So, no, it won't 'serve her right'.
The law is there to protect her from her childish idiocy and those who did it should be penalised
maybe not illegal if the mother consented..........still so wrong at the age of 15!........

If the tattoo is recent (and real) there will still be plenty of redness and inflammation on the skin around it. Further the child will have to explain where she got the money (perhaps £100+?) to pay for it.

It's far more likely that it's a henna 'tattoo', which isn't a proper tattoo at all. Instead of a needle penetrating into the lower (permanent) layer of the skin, it's simply a staining of the upper layer (which wears away naturally in a couple of weeks or so).

Henna 'tattoos' are perfectly legal on minors (and easily available, quite cheaply, on almost every pleasure pier in the country).

Eddie, it is illegal under the age of 18, except for medical reasons.

hi guys.....update , it is a very real tattoo all over her wrist done as a favour to her mother. School commences next Monday....watch this space !!! The child'smother is such a cow, my boyfriend can't express his disgust and anger or he won't get to see the kids at all . :(
Dreadful situation for him, flump. Those poor kids being used as weapons is not on, but all too common in divorce.
Surely if the mother consented to her under-age child getting a tattoo, that would go in the father's favour if hes to apply for custody of child?

It shows the mother doesn't have the child's welfare at heart.
