I always try to have 2 books on the go, one for daytime reading one for that half hour between going to bed and actually sleeping. The daytime one tends to be the 'heavier' of the two with the bedtime read being either an autobiography or a very light read. I have just finished 'The Wasp Factory' - yes i actually managed to see it through to the bitter end (though why i bothered...........) - and have just read the first 3 chapters of 'The Barber Surgeons Hairshirt', the second book in Douglas Lindsay's darkly comic tale of Glasgow barber, Barney Thompson. The first book, 'The Long Midnight Of Barney Thompson' had me in fits of laughter in places and if this second book is half as good, i will be going to sleep with a huge grin on my face for the next couple of weeks.
Chill; if you have enjoyed any of Robert Harris's books - Enigma, Archangel, etc, etc - you will not be disappointed with 'Fatherland'. Excellent read.
