My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Morning each, what day is it? I don't know where the week's gone, no skipping through beautiful wild flowers, just shopping, pottering and Tuesday was hair do dah day. Dull and muggy today but we've had some glorious weather. Not a drop of rain though and we need some.

Yes neti, I'm still watching Holby. Horrible Fran was in foster care with Jac as children and they were abused. She didn't want Jasmine, Jac's half sister, interfering and coming between them, and it led to the tragic fight. Now Morven doesn't believe it was an accident and is out to prove it. Maybe Fran will crack up. I think that's it anyway. :)

Hmmm, so there's a new Ed is there? I've got a bit out of touch. Bring back the old format I say. Do you look through the sub categories? A lot of them are empty or certainly very quiet.
Tut
hello all. Same as yesterday here, hot and muggy. Have been out and done half of my watering and a bit of garden tidying and am enjoying lunch
Thanks Robi. A jewnEd? I didn't know. I have another bigger new tooth and cannot seem to remove it so will leave it in. Have had a nice lunch and all teeth old and new workednfine. Now relaxing in cool bedroom as it is so hot
Woody what is the matter with Shugy?.
he had a stomach upset Neti..had the vet out on friday evening and it was tuesday before he was really over it. Once he was over it, he was still quite tired. He’s fine now though :)
Good morning all.
Its Mr N's birthday. But just having a few lunchtime drinks and a quiet day. Way too hot for anything exciting.
Slept with new tooth as can't get it out. So if I can't get it out forcibly am hardly going to swallow it am I?
My ab format keeps changing. Sometimes its in a nice column and then back to normal one.

OH and I were both at Canary Wharf the other day, at different times. We both saw free ice cream being dished out. I read the fine print and skipped it, but OH did not and wondered why it tasted so crunchy.

Apparently the taste hasn't gone away yet.
seriously? hahahahaha
I would try insects!

I didn't quite see it as a way of promoting The Economist. I suspect it's more the idea of having eaten it than the actual taste that is lingering on.
Afternoon all....sunny, cloudy, warm and headachey here. Just having tea & tablets and watching some tennis.

Oh yuk, fliescream. Not for me thanks. I turned my back on a cuppa yesterday and something landed in it.
same old same old here.
Good morning folks. HAVE A HAPPY SUNDAY!
Cat was a nuisance in the night, kept us both up, then when I awoke at 9am she was at the foot of the bed and I kicked her as I didn't know.
We are off to see hija to collect Mr N s birthday present, it a bike but he doesn't know. It'll give him something to do. No doubt lunch will be involved!

still quite sultry here, but we dare not open the door to the garden since we've both seen a rat outside in the last week. We put down a sachet of poison, which has now vanished, so he's probably taken it away to snack on.
I hate them. the council want us to compost but when I did it I got rats living in the bins and in our garage.
Afternoon all
Cloudy and warm ,thunderstorm threatened but no show as yet.
Belated birthday wishes to Mr N Neti. Will you be cycling around with him :)
I had an ice cream yesterday but it just had a flake in it ,no insects.
We had my old quiz buddy and his partner here yesterday from Wisbech. They brought us some eggs from their chooks and some home made rhubarb and ginger jam.We took them to the beach cafe for lunch then we tottered along the seafront. He's just about recovered from a new hip and she's an arthritic wreck like me.Mr S was the only fit one.It was really nice to see them.
Hope you're all ok.
sorry happy birthday to Mr N and wishing you many many more
Rats, you lot don't know what rats are. Have them everyday, but to be fair they are only field rats, well some arent! The cats deal with them. It cockroaches that are getting to me. Was another one in the lounge last night. Mr N tried to pretend he was chasing a moth but I insisted on standing on the settee until I saw the dead body and it was a wee beastie, hate them.
No,shaney I have done the impossible, I have forgotten how to ride a bike.
We had a nice tapas lunch in a different place that hija introduced us to, very nice too. Now just had manchego cheese and goats cheese with honey and walnuts.
My new tooth won't come out, it is supposed too but I can't do it.
