I also want to uninstall the Kodak software from my laptop, but when I go into Uninstall, there is a window that says UI File is Missing, and I can't uninstall the printer. Help !!
Value of cartridges is probably the best yardstick to use. You can pick up a cheap printer at Tesco, probably less than £30, and it'll give you long service if it isn't given heavy use. Most printers are actually sold at a loss - it's the cartridges that make money - so check cartridge prices first.

Thanks, just discovered that I have to exchange it for another one at PC World - my Kodak won't work - a year old - and they won't give me my money back. Crafty eh?
If you don’t need colour printing and do not print onto heavy-weight paper (>100g/m2) – then I would recommend a budget mono laser printer. They can be purchased for less than £50 and do not contain ink cartridges that can dry out due to prolonged inactivity.

However you need to be aware that the manufacturers play the same game as with ink jets, in that the toner cartridges can cost the same as the laser printer.

Therefore you need to check that ebay sellers are selling refill toner (typically costing £10 that will do for 2+ refills) and that if fitted, reset chips are also cheap.

It can be a bit messy refilling the toner cartridge, which normally involves removing a bung and filling using a funnel or some such device. But with low usage – you should not need to refill more than once in 2 years.

There are some HP deskjet inkjet printers on PC World website which dont look too bad for money, I think I will have to get one of those. By the way no worries about the uninstalling question, I sorted it. Thanks all !
