for 2014, beating Rory McIlroy into 2nd place(which apparently came as quite a shock to some).

Very well deserved and a very magnanimous victory speech.
To be fair, he fought through some dreadful bad luck and no little 'interference' from his team mate before shining through with superior talent and determination. True Brit spirit.

A special mention too for the Helen Rollason Award winners, the GB Athletes from the Invictus Games. Prince Harry presented the award and I have to say I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye.
Well done to all concerned, it was a great showcase of Great British sporting talent that shone bright throughout the year.

Can't say it came as a surprise to me, although I suppose McIlroy could have had a good shout after all with his two majors this year, including the Open. But that was weeks ago, so it was always going to be Lewis I thought.
Soooperb!!
McIlroy looked shocked and issed off. I don't blame him.

Oh well, he can't blame Lewis, he'll have to look at the great British public for that! As I pointed out though, Lewis had the good grace to acknowledge the year he'd(McIlroy) had.
Nice to see Jo Pavey is popular enough to have achieved third place.
Loo seems to have had a personality transplant

gone are the days when he said - I cant take a ++++ in a lavatory without someone coming up and asking for my autograph ....
''I cant take a ++++ in a lavatory''

Pussycat Doll?
I was glad to see Jo Pavey on the podium. I also thought McIlroy looked a bit peeved about not winning.
I had a lump in my throat through much of the programme. I couldn't look at the telly while they put up names and photos of sports people who've died this year. I had to pretend to be engrossed in my crossword. Great choice for Lifetime Achievement, but Chris Hoy is so much younger than the usual recipients.

Lewis only had one man to beat.
Yes, I admire Lewis's "True Brit spirit" - moving to Switzerland to avoid paying any UK tax.

Lewis only had one man to beat.

As well as a whole field of drivers to manoeuvre through on occasion as well as a team mate who used both fair means and foul and he still beat him.
Like I said, blame the public, not the winner.

So if you were a multi millionaire, where would you choose to live Canary?
At times a drab and dreary UK, or one of several homes throughout the world?

Furthermore, given that he spends 8/9 months in every 12 of his working year NOT in the UK I don't really see your point Canary.
Totally undeserved he has been acting like a spoilt miserable little kid all season.
Where does he pay his income tax ?
Canary. When my daughter worked on ships for P&O, she paid her UK tax but then got most of it back from HMRC, because she was out of the country for most of her working year.

You're quite right, Chill.
canary, when was Monaco ceded to Switzerland?

I must have missed that one......
noe-schitt
//Totally undeserved he has been acting like a spoilt miserable little kid all season. //.

You must have been watching something else , all season .

In any event , the winner is decided by the great british public ( and not by some panel ) and they voted Hamilton the winner
