Don't get any here but was appalled a few years ago when coming out of the train station in Paris to be bogged down in them ,found it scary. I tend to give youngsters a wee amount, always thinking it could have been my son/grandson in dire straights. I know it could go on drink or drugs, but it's never more than a pound, and if they are very young tell them to get in touch with their family who may be worried sick about them. I'm not a soft touch,just a loving mum.

I always feel sorry for their dogs. All the ones round me nearly always have a staffie lying down with them.

I've see the ones with dogs, and actually watched them sharing one and doing a changeover. Always give to buskers too

We don't get many in our local town, but the nearest city does have it's fair share.

I give a pound or two where I can. Yes, it's a gamble that the person might be a professional beggar, but I can live with that.

I find them annoying.
I have been homeless, I was penniless and living in doorways, phone boxes and bus shelters but I never once thought of begging. There are plenty of 'shelters' where you can get a bed for the odd night and lots of soup kitchens to get hot food from, there is no need to beg at all.

Beggars have dogs to gain peoples sympathy - dog-loving folk who wouldn't normally give to a beggar probably will if he has a dog because they will be worried about the dog not getting fed
