Just heard that Ruth Davidson had given birth to a boy. The Scottish Conservative leader tweeted on Friday afternoon that she and her partner Jen Wilson named the child Finn Paul Davidson. He weighed 10lb 1.5oz. Not quite sure how I feel about this but wish wee Finn a long and happy life.

SparklyKid - // I get fathers days cards from my wifes children, with the word step written on, quite touching. //

And significant - you refer to them as 'my wife's children … ' so clearly you don't see that as your children, and why indeed should you? You haven't raised them, they don't see you as a parent.

I have been with my oldest girls since they were six and four - they see me as their dad because that is what I am, so i don't get cards with 'step' written on, and I would find it hurtful if I did.

AH describes me as a bigot and a homophobe for not embracing the concept of same sex couples raising children.

Further input is futile and I shall leave you to it.
Do you know what isn't healthy??? Kids being pushed around foster parents until they're 18 and legally obliged to look after themselves. Do you know what is healthy? Giving a kid a loving home with parents who love but more importantly, support them.
Maybe those who think it's unhealthy for same sex couples to adopt don't realise the unhealthy number of children there are up for adoption.
Ruth Davidson was on The One Show a little while ago. She did not have IVF, but used a sperm donor with her eggs. She has had the first child and her partner is going to have the second with the same donir and her own eggs. I know of two other couples who have done this and it worked out fine.
Father figures aren't as important in life as knowing you're loved, cared for and supported. Many children grow up without fathers and it usually makes them stronger themselves.

I understand why you don't debate properly - it's because you don't read and understand the points that are made to you, and you take umbrage at insults that don't exist.

If you re-read my post, you will see that I said that bigotry and homophobia have no place in a loving family - I did not state, or even infer that you are a bigot and a homophobe.

However, if the cap fits ….
Neither are mothers, I have personal experience.

Just cannot help yourself.
Children need love, guidance and stability - that can come in many different packages.
That is true SK and i never said otherwise.

One thing about mothers though is they have a very special bond with their babies.. because they are pretty much one for 9 months.. After that they crave the mothers warmth and breasts. They do not crave by any means their fathers.

Assuming that further input is not now futile, and you are no longer leaving us to it - you'll need to explain what this post means, in order to get a meaningful response - assuming you actually want one of course.
very true mamy. Look at the animal kingdom... we're not so different from them. Look at a pack of chimps for example. secret life of chester zoo
Spot on Spath. My wife phones her daughter every day, I speak to mine perhaps weekly.
Leave it alone AH. I am no longer interested in your posts. Extend me the courtesy of ignoring mine please.
Your role in her life is very important, no less than the mothers, however the biological connection and natural instinct draws offspring to their mothers, or mother figures.

For example.....

A baby duck hatches, it looks at you first, you're its mama.

That is true, but that is biology, and it has always been thus.

But we need to appreciate that as a modern society, the 'nuclear' family model no longer holds the influence and sway that it did, in the same way that marriage is seen as no longer essential for co-habiting and raising children.

Society, and culture, evolve, and we must evolve with them.

If you enter a thread, your posts are up for analysis and discussion - if you don't want that, don't post.
"but that is biology"

Exactly! Something that no matter what, is driven into our nature. Magnificent
My congratulations to the family :-)
