/// His comments echoed those made by a Muslim women’s human rights group which said it was advising parents to 'keep your daughter’s passport under lock and key'. ///

"MUSLIM WOMEN’S HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP" Surely that has got to be the most prime example of a 'contradictory of terms' ever?

it's like Miss Jean Brodie's girls, Boxtops,, filled with passion and running off to fight in Spain... on the wrong side.
Well of course it would be nice not to have the keep our offspring away from certain things, but we do - if only for peace of mind.
jno, wasn't a RN destroyer dispatched to Spain to rescue a posh gal who'd went to fight for The Right?
Could we send some sort of military team, from Cyprus perhaps, to save these three girls from their foolish actions?
But at what age do you stop locking up their passports?
No, shouldn't have to, Ummmm, and at least if they are out of the country they are not plotting mayhem here. That's one way of looking at it. The other is to try to starve Isil of Westernised recruits who will not only breed more but try to indocrinate their friends in the West.

Preventing radicalisation in the first place is the answer, of course, but we have let things slide far too far due to complacency and ultra-tolerance of alien cultures at the expense of our own. There's rather a mountain to climb ahead of us and civil liberties for anyone displaying ostentatious Islamic leanings (e.g. Burkha, Hijab etc.) may have to be infringed. So be it. The first duty of a government is to protect its people.

I don't get much time right now to keep an eye on AB, so apologies if I do not get back for ages.
Well, I guess it is each parents choice when they unlock the box/drawer - I'd personally keep them in there till they were needed.
"More power to them"

Being taken to a foreign country and enslaved is not a power." It would help if people researched things they claim as fact.

No,it's not the case. The woman in front of us last trip had to go to a side room and show her face to a woman official. The husband was kicking off, but she had to do it.

I don't blame him, I would do the same if they treated my property like that.
The three girls were not wearing burquas or nijabs when they went through customs.

The widely circulated photograph of them at Gatwick shows them not concealing their identities at all. So why is most of this thread concerned with something that didn't happen?

I think that's where I went wrong Gromit - I simply commented on the sensible nature of keeping your children's passports safe.

I'll never learn.
I tell a lie, the 15 year old has deliberately pixelated her face when she went through the metal detector.

@gromit. Nobody said 'these' girls wore burqas. The question, though was about locking passports up. Do try and keep up.
Marshwarble "More power to them"

/// Being taken to a foreign country and enslaved is not a power." It would help if people researched things they claim as fact.///

Who 'took' them. It would help if you thought things through before making fatuous statements.

am i the only one who doesn't understand the question title?
seems that way.
no bednobs, I didn't get it either, i assumed it had something to do with these guys:

http://www.ups.com/

AOG might possibly have meant "whoops" or "oops?"

Don't jump on the bandwagon, boo. It's most unbecoming, especially for a mod. There were 33 answers before boxtop and not one questioned the OP.
eh? all i'm asking is what it means because i can't work it out from the article!
plus if everyone else knows what it means, that's probably why they didn't mention it.
Joining IS knowingly colludes with their grotesque mass murders, torture, enforced slavery and rape. No one can claim not to know.
