OH was just telling me where he was working today (outside) that people kept bringing them drinks (iced) and one lady made them lunch.
So kind.

Some of the travel survey work has required me to stand out on the street, either monitoring vehicle movements or conducting interviews with pedestrians, in sub-zero temperatures for up to 12 hours at a time (minus a few breaks, of course).
I've had lots of people bring mugs of coffee out to me, sometimes carrying them quite some distance from their homes to where I've been working. On one occasion I had two neighbours who were clearly competing with each other: Lady 1 would bring me a mug of coffee but, later on, Lady 2 would bring me another one, telling me that I deserved 'proper' coffee and not the instant stuff that Lady 1 had given me. That meant that the next time that Lady 1 brought me a coffee she also brought a very generous slice of fruit cake with it. Not to be outdone, Lady 2 supplied with me homemade walnut cake . . . . and so it went on all day!
Of course, it doesn't always work like that. On one occasion (in Dover), I'd been stood on the same spot on the street for many hours, in freezing weather conditions, when the guy who lived in the house that I was standing outside of came out to tell me that if I didn't effing move my effing a_se from outside his effing house he was going to kick my effing head in! C'est la vie ;-)

Have to agree that most people are kind and caring - yesterday my neighbour (who is terminally ill) rang to check if I was OK as I'd been so quiet of late.
I explained that I had deliberately kept the noise down to prevent a nuisance to her, she told me off and said she'd rather hear me mooching about.
Brought a moist eye.

He didn't eat the lunch, Gness, but he was very grateful. The rest of the gang did. :-)
One time someone asked him to fill in a pothole in their drive. They paid him in biscuits. Lots of biscuits, he would have happily done it for nothing, 10 minute job. I just said 'what the eff am I going to do with all these Happy Shopper biscuits' :-)

Mamya, that makes me wonder what you normally do ;)
My cousin was laying carpets in the house next to me and knocked on my door hoping to be invited in for a cup of tea. I didn’t quite get that at the time and after some awkwardness he asked to borrow a dustpan and brush. I felt awful when I realised what he’d really wanted.
Anyway, people are mostly very nice.

Yes, in my experience most people are nice and I always treat them as such. Sometimes I find that I was mistaken- but very rarely. There is just one man in the village who has made everyone fall-out with him - and he can't understand why. He must think that most people are horrible. I'd rather be like me.
I had four chaps come to change the water meter yesterday (well that was one chap doing the work and the other three standing around). I made them all a nice cold lemon squash. It was only after they had gone I noticed they had trampled across the lavender hedge and broken one of the plants and completely mushed up a geranium (for which there was no real need because neither were close - it was just because they couldnt be bothered to walk round).
