After having yet another problem with this new Sony Vaio and Win 8, (help solved by Abers) I am seriously considering having Win xp installed instead, as I really hate this Win 8 and being all in Technical Spanish it is difficult to get to grips with. What do other think, would it be better for me, as I love win xp?

As I just put on your other thread.
Don't go back to XP, if you are going to go back to an earlier version, go fro Windows 7 Home Premium.
I would say stick with Win 8, I hated it when I first started setting up machines with it on; but I have been won over.
I'll reply to your other question here:
Why not XP? Two reasons 1. It's core is over 10 years old now, things have moved on now; and 2. XP will only be supported until 2015 (although that goalpost keeps getting moved)

I have faith in you Wyeddyed, so am going to stick with win 8, and try to make sense of it all. My reasoning is, that I think win 8 has more to offer even if I cannot find it or use it, so will plod on. Thanks for all your help really was helpful.
I feel your pain. I'm currently using my son's laptop, which has Windows 8, and I hate it!

A couple of hints that have helped me:
1. The right click on the home page that I mentioned earlier (show all apps)
2. Right clicking the program tile of things that you use often and selecting "pin to task bar". This will pin it to the Desktop window at the bottom making it easier to run.
3. The search option from the bar that pops out when you move to the top/bottom right of the screen. If you know that it used to be on XP, search here.
Good luck, we're all learning together.
Thanks for the tips, Wye. I literally got stuck on a window last week, and had to wait for my 11 year old son to come home and show me how to do it! lol
Oh yes, Hovering in the top left corner shows which other programs you are running. Left click to swap to them or right click to get the option to close them.
Bottom Left lets to swap between the Desktop screen and the App screen.
Bottom left lets you swap...

but what is the App screen for? I can see no use to it at all.
