any police officers on here ??
hi guys,
right, im 27 and live in birmingham,
ive been in a few jobs, but got bored of those and went to college at 24y.o to do what id wanted to do for a while,
am now a gym instructor, i dont have many qualifications other than my fitness stuff, left school at 16 into a job, yada-yada etc.
im not a moron and i try and learn new things all the time, just wish id tried harder at school, but hey, its the way it is, but for what its worth, i consider myself fairly intelligent.
i enjoy my job at the moment but feel i need a new challenge, and a few times in the last few years or so ive contemplated joining the police force at the ground floor, ive had the forms and filled them in only to talk myself out of it.
so my questions for you guys are,
what sort of person does it take to go for this kind of job ?
i mean in terms of personality wise, i.e who you are ?
not the things you learn, more in terms of what it takes to go for it to start with ??
as i assume it takes a certain type of person..
before with jobs, ive felt im going nowhere, my fitness job gives me challenges, i train hard and work hard but without sounding cliche , feel i have a calling somewhere else.
any help /advice /experiences would be gratefully recieved and read with great interest.

hi,
I have been a Police officer for over 20 years. It is much more than a job. It is a way of life. It not only dictates what you do at work, but has a serious impact on your personal life. You are never "off duty". You are a police officer 24 / 7 until the day you retire. The job requires a degree of intelligence an ability to complete copious amounts of paperwork to a good standard and on time!. Most importantly, you need to be a good communicator, a good listener and have a raft of common sense. You need an excellent sense of humour, skin as thick as a rhino and be prepared to have your life messed about, shifts changed and work endless hours. You will be subject to an internal disciplinary system which actively encourages colleagues to "grass each other up". You can not be a member of a trade union. You can not strike. You can not "work to rule". You are not allowed to be a member of a political party. You can not voice your political preferences publicly. You even need permission from the Chief Officer to do voluntary work in your own time.

sir prize...i thought your days of being in the internet police were over! no bottle eh? you forget where i come from..i've told many a cop just what i think of them..there are probably one or two cops who aren't around anymore due to the actions of men like me...a fact of which i am very proud.you live your way and i'll live mine.
