iPods

I already have an iPod and so have an iTunes account on my laptop - if I wanted to get another iPod and keep it totally seperate but load music to it through the same laptop - how would I do it? When I connect the new iPod won't it just sync to iTunes and end up as a duplicate of the music conte I already have? Am I being thick?? (Don't answer the latter!!)
