Fast growing tree

I'm looking for a tree to go in my garden, preferably one that looks good grows quite tall and grows faitly quickly. what do you suggest?

How about a Silver Birch?
Well if you like golden leaves I'd recommend my favourite, Robinia frisia - but then I would, wouldn't I?!
Makes a real impact, glows in the sunshine or brightens up the garden on a dull day.

The eucalyptus will grow even more quickly but they need to be pruned very regularly as I've found to my cost....a small fortune to have it reduced to a manageable size yesterday!
And do bear in mind that any tree is going to need 2 or 3 years to get it's roots down before you see it start to really grow.

Hi Offramp, A few key points you might like to think about before choosing a tree for the garden are as follows-
How much space do you have ?
How big will the tree get after 10 years and how big is it likely to be when full grown?
Does it have invasive roots that could damage foundations, underground pipes etc ?
Is the site exposed or sheltered ?
Will it be suitable for your soil type ie acid or alkaline ?
A native tree for wildlife or something more exotic ?
Evergreen or deciduous ?
Autumn colour ?
Fruiting or flowering ?
Shapes ie weeping, Narrow (columnar)
Quite tall I'd say is about medium, some of my personal favourites as a specemin ornamental tree for a garden are- Dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides), a beautiful conifer which has lovely fox-red autumn colour.
Maiden hair tree, a single species that has unusual leaves that turn deep yellow in the autumn. or maybe the sweet gum (Liquidambar straciflua) which I think has the most briliant of all autumn coluor and maple-like leaves.
I guess it all comes down to what appeals to You but obviously you dont want to plant something that could be a costly problem in a few years down the line.
