I`m not a big cake eater but I used to like the McVities ginger cake that my Mum bought. It`s years and years since I had it so I have just made this http://atlascafeleicester.wordpress.com/2012/04/22/sticky-gingerbread-recipe-just-like-mcvities-ginger-cake/ I`ve just stuck a knife in to see if it`s ready and I tried a little bit. It`s pretty good. Just thought I`d share the recipe.

Or you could buy Wrights ginger cake mix which quite near the mark of being Mcvities ginger cake, depends how you cook it apparently.

I tried that one dunnital (it was going cheap at Aldi) but I didn`t like it. It was bitter.
Oh that's a shame SJ, we found it reasonable, but I don't think we mere mortals can emulate the original. A secret recipe methinks.
Question Author
Yes, probably. The one I tried is pretty near the Delia Smith one. Apparently, if you leave it in a tin for a couple of days it gets that sticky top that the McVities cakes had.
McVities Ginger Cake is alive and well....saw it in Sainsburys this morning.
My husband buys one every week.... I don't think they ever stopped making them?
Question Author
Yes you can still get them. I like to make my own stuff though so I can put natural ingredients in.
Or to quote Ronnie Barker

Jjjjjamaican ginger cake... Media URL: http://youtu.be/iItRaFo18Co
Description:
Farm Foods have it at 2 for £1 -sometimes even 3 for a £1
I will be trying this later, looks good. How is your shoulder?
Question Author
Thanks for asking puzzled - I have had two sessions of physio on my shoulder and have ultrasound tomorrow. It had a rest while I was on holiday for 10 days but now I`m back at work it has had a bashing and I`m constantly wrenching it. Loads of my colleages have shoulder problems and a lot of people have to have operations. I hope it won`t come to that so we`ll see.
McVities ginger cake isn't a patch on what it used to be. These days it's so soft, moist, and floppy it's almost impossible to cut neatly - it just falls apart under the knife.
Question Author
I put in it the tin for a couple of days and as the recipe said, it has gone sticky on the top. I`ve just had a slice and it`s really nice - shame it`s so fattening.
