I spend a lot of time in the local hospital cancer unit and I have got to know pretty much everybody who works there. I would like to give the staff some chocolates at Christmas but I have noticed that there always seems to be a box of Quality Street or Roses behind the desk that the patients have donated so I`m not sure that they want yet more chocolates. I was thinking of making a jamaican ginger cake (my speciality), slicing it up and taking that along for them. Do you think that would go down OK? I`m not sure of the protocol re gifts

Thanks for the replies. I was in two minds about the cake versus chocolates. My oldest and best friend is a nurse but she couldn`t advise as she hasn`t worked on the wards for many years but she said that when she worked in a GP practice, they had a Sister who used to ration the chocolates that were given to the staff by the patients. The Sister used to lock the chocolates in a cupboard and would only let the staff have them when she said so. Talk about control freak!
As long as there are no herbal additions.....
They get a lot of chocolates at Christmas.
Please give some butter with the cake
Question Author
There won`t be any herbal additions. I`m saving them for my mother!
home baking. oh yes. you could supply some butter, and they would be delighted.
Happy Mother day!
Question Author
Absolutely!
Or you could give them a tin of biscuits or shortbread to have with their teas or coffees?
Yes defiantly!!! We get lots of chocs which is nice but cake goes down very well with a cup of tea :-)))
