Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Yet again xstitcher has come to my recuse with ideas for a theme. So here are a few suggestions, obviously the interent is filled with all sorts of stuff so I have stuck with the diabetes.org site.

Here are some great suggestions for breakfast:

and a main meal:

I know Wendi. You are all very helpful and supportive on this thread. I always look in, every week, to see how you're all getting on.
Hi everyone, this is the first question Xstitcher posted to start this Onwards Downwards club, it's just over four years ago :-) Time flies

Thanks for that wow how time flies After I posted I was thinking it must be over 3 years. We have had people come and go and come back again never thinking at the time we would still be trying to keep this thread going for help and ideas .
Thanks so much for that Marijn. I remember that one of the answers was from a person saying that at that age why should anyone care what they look like....ah the callousness of youth eh what! I have Honour Blackman as my role model ha ha!
Yes, and Joan Collins and Joanna Lumley! :-) I really need to concentrate on losing weight now, I keep messing up :-(
I just weighed myself and my found out that my suspicions were right and the scales are going the wrong way. I think there is more sugar and fat in everything down here. I can only get semi skinned milk...tastes good and I need to drink it every day but oh dear oh dear oh dear. We still have two weeks to go before getting back to normal. You'd think with all this packing and bagging exercise I'm getting that my weight would be going the other way.:-((

Thanks ab auntie we live in hope .
Yes Auntie, hope springs eternal, so fingers crossed. Thank you for your kind words.
Good morning all,
After a week of my scales doing an OG I'm pleased to report that I'm the same as last week. I can expect that to be the best I can do down here because of the unavailability of some of the lower fat content foods I have to eat.
I'm going to do my porridge with 50/50 milk and water and see how that turns out today.
Good luck to the rest of you.
No change for me either this week....although that is an achievement as I've had visitors to stay. We had several meals out and I ate a few naughties to be polite, but i have been out and about with them so I must have walked it all off. Phew. Now its back to the plot and the salad leaves!
Morning all have really made an effort this week no junk food and lost approx. 1 1/2 lbs. So quite pleased with that . Xstitcher don't worry you know what is causing your non loss and you will be able to rectify it when you get back home .
Maydup I find that if I have too many salad meals in the week I always stay the same . By writing everything down I notice this . I have had no salad this week.
Well done Wend, and those who stayed the same. To my surprise the scales were not being too amusing and reading over-high today, and agreed with themselves twice following, so I feel more confident to say that I too remained the same over the last week. That said I seem to have jumped up since yesterday !
OG XX you make me laugh it might have been that midnight snack you forgot about lol.
Thanks Wendilla that's a good tip about salad. I do think the body holds on to the weight if the intake is too light, we just have to find a careful and sensible balance don't we .
Most of this week I have had roast dinners apart from one night and a low cal choc mousse after. If I feel I want something sweet that is what I have .
I eat a salad every day at lunch or dinner. At home I use a low fat sour cream dressing and here I use a balsamic vinegar and nothing more. In my salad I just have lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber and sometimes avocado.
They have never seemed to affect my weight one way or the other. Sometimes I have califlower, parsley and chicken but never with oil or a shop dressing where even the light versions are pretty fatty.
Just to clarify what I meant by not having salad every day for a main meal . I do have it as a side salad with certain meals .
Now I understand mine are all side salads.
