I've been to a funeral today of an old lady down the road. It was the saddest funeral I've been to because there were NO flowers (not one) by request only 6 mourners 3 neighbours & 3 distant family. She was a widow and never had children, The 3 relatives all lived in Spain & had just come over for the burial. When we got back we noticed there was a single white rose on the doormat.

thats very sad :( i think I can safely say when I go, i want to make sure that I have lived enough that there are people there celebrating my life x big hugs x funerals are never nice
No, that is how I want to go.
I dont want flowers all over the place, expensive and left t die, I don´t people trying zto be sad and forcing back the tears, I dont want the funeral to be a index of my popularity or otherwise,I just want Mrs sqad to be there just to say goodbye.

· Three neighbours and three relatives is just fine.
I think I agree with sqad. It's nice to be remembered, but not everyone has a big family or loads of friends - as long as there is someone there, I won't complain.
Thats sad Jem - I know some people think flowers are a waste of money at a funeral, but I still like to see them.
Jem - I suspect it happens more than most realise.
Many years ago I was asked to represent the Royal Marines at the funeral of an old soldier who had died at the Star and Garter home in Richmond. At the graveside was the clergyman, a nurse from the hospital, a bugler to sound the last post and me. One of the saddest days of my life.
Look...if you want a popular funeral with the church packed, then die young, because if you reach a good old age, all your friends will be dead.
that is very poignant Jem..
Wouldn't bet on that myself sqad
Good health is the slowest way to die.
McMouse...;-)
Sqad - will you be buried in Menorca or England ?
Den.....I couldn´t care a "toss"

I hope that I will be cremated.

Unfortunately Mrs sqad will make the decisions, but she knows my feelongs.
whats a feelong ?
pmsl@DEN
Den......LOL...It would give me great pleasure to show you....LOL
Not before you have cleaned that villa up - Mrs. S. will be home soon......
Den...her plane is already delayed by 2 hours in Manchester.....she will be in a bloody awful mood when she lands.

"I suppose a bit of nooky is out of the question",I shall greet her with......LO
Well at least it will give you more time to clean the villa up - otherwise if when she finds them Pringle canisters on her shag pile rugs then she will be wearing your balls as earrings...............

NB: Pringles are posh crisps.....

Sorry Jem for going off thread....
I'm with Sqad on this one. Obviously it would be up to my family, but they know I would be happy with a cardboard box and no flowers. At my mother's funeral I just had some bunches of spring flowers and then gave them to my aunts and female cousins and her close friends after the funeral. Flowers left to die upset me. It matters more who comes to see you when you are alive than who turns up at your funeral.
