Bucket lists...

Me and my sister are doing a "bucket list". Not things to do before we.. er.. hit the bucket, but 30 things to do before we're (her) 30 and (me) 35.

Mine are all quite simple, and don't requite a huge amount of planning nor money. I figured this was important, as otherwise it wouldn't be so achievable.

My top 5 are as follows:

1. learn to swim (properly)
2. Give up Christmas day, to help out at a homeless shelter
3. Do a charity fundraiser. Was thinking cycling John O'Groats, to Lands End
4. Learn Welsh
5. Afternoon Tea at The Ritz... although I'm currently debating if I actually want to do this one.

I'm not looking for ideas, as I've already done mine, but just wondered what would be your top 5 things to do?

Great list Flip and as you say, quite achievable. Inspired me to think about my list od ambitions as apposed to places to visit which is the usual bucket list..............I'll post again when I've given it some thought!
Gave up part of Christmas Day this year to man the lines at . What's 3 hours out of 24? Go for it.
Sorry, missed out important word "man the lines at SAMARITANS"
Question Author
Maid, there's loads of places I would like to visit, but as you say, that would be too obvious!

Maggie, that is such a lovely, selfless thing to do. My auntie was a Samaritan. Did you have to do much training?
Tea at the Manoir aux Quatres Saison is much nicer btw.

Without having to bother with Google, DT, where is that?

Also... remember it has to be achievable! :)
Come closer than I did last year at breeding a true black rose... (Don't hold your breath!) then donating he prize money to Christian Foundation for Children and the Aging......

Ohh, that's a good one, Clandid.

You'll have to provide pics, if you manage it! :-)
Flip, Samaritan training is done in modular form. If memory serves me right there are 8 modules followed by a 6 month probationary period. Probationary period can be shorter if recommended number of shifts have been carried out. I love it.
Have you a reason for learning welsh flip? Do you want to be a Cymro Gymraeg by any chance? Swimming properly is a darn sight easier.
I was made up to knock one off my bucket list last year, the rest are mostly places to visit; Machu Picchu, see the Northern Lights, that type of thing, definitely need to do a sky dive and a bungee jump.
This, though, is top of my todo list for this year... http://toughmudder.com/ looks like I'm gonna have to train quite hard for it!!

Maggie, hats off to you for doing that. It takes a special kind of person to give up their time like that, for others.
I'm not so sure I'd be cut out for it. As much as I'd love to do something like that, I don't think I'm the kind of person who could go home and just forget about the things people had said on the phone. I think it would play on my mind... a lot.
Seadog, I have no idea what that means! :)) BUT... I've always wanted to learn another language and, as I am Welsh, figured that would be a good place to start!
Paul, jesus!!! That looks amazing... but ridiculously tough! Bit better than the Krypton Factor, huh :D
Gosh, I wouldn't choose learning Welsh - I found it really hard (worse than German, French and Latin) and I am Welsh.
1 To get and stay sober for more than a year
2: To eventually give up smoking
3: Go wild and dye my hair blond for my 50th
4: To stop thinking about myself (see above)
5: I'll let you know when I think of something worthy.
O.K. flip. It means a Welsh speaking welshman. Not welsh myself but Mrs S had a lot of relations on Anglesey so I had a go for fun. When I stopped using it I am afraid it went, apart from place names. Good luck with it.

Right. So I may have to re-think the Welsh thing, which is a massive shame. Maybe change that to "brush up on my English"? Much more achievable :))
Alba, they are all good ones :-)
Flip. go for the welsh. There was a thingy on the news earlier todaym I think school is Ysgol (or something like that) English changes, Welsh and Galiec seem to stay the same xx
Don't give up on learning Welsh. It's part of you, and that's precisely the reason I'm learning Scots Gaelic.

As for tea at the Ritz, that's easily achieved... ;-)
Thame, not that far from Oxford or Heathrow and within striking distance of S Wales or Somerset....
School is Ysgol (I can only remember some words and can't manage many sentences - can remember 'I like coffee' but can't spell it in Welsh correctly).
