...... to buy a metal detector!

Have you been watching "Britain's Secret Treasures" each night this week on ITV? Some beautiful treasures have been unearthed. A great programme!

Have any ABers ever unearthed any "treasure?"

only my o/h, and he didn't come out the ground..
you are my treasure, ann.

why search for perfection when it is here already?
its archaeological rape, destroys stratigraphy and in some cases never gets declared just melted down and sold for scrap. Although some amazing things have been found by metal detectorists others have been lost due to poor records. nuff said.
A coin valued at around £750 (still in the house somewhere) but to be honest, metal detecting bored me.
Only the other day I said I wanted one - I've lost the hole the rotary drier goes into in the lawn.
When I was a Mole trapper I always used one to find my traps that I lost.
OH bought one for fun. Used it in Ireland on beaches.Loads of coins....enough to pay for petrol back to Dublin. But oh lord ....the number of rusty Rosary Beads we found. We had fun for a while and you never know......
Tried once or twice. All I found were old bottle tops, ring pulls and assorted metal rubbish.
like the two chaps recently, who unearthed buried treasure, worth 10 million, not sure what is happening about it, hope they get to share in it with the farmer who's land it was on.

Aah thanks a million Excel that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me (flattery will get you everywhere LOL ;0)
I have a friend in Dorset who belongs to a metal detecting club, she's found quite a few things on the beach at Weymouth. mostly mobiles from drunks who have wandered/wondered there in the dark.
I'd love to find some real treasure, not for monetary gain but the fact it has been underground for x many years and you are the first one to handle it again.

Hope you showed OH your reply Em ;) How much did he pay you LOL!
If you do buy one don't buy a cheap one or you'll end up like paddywak and only find bottle tops and ring pulls.

With a decent one there are settings to ignore rubbish like that
Guy bought a metal detector went looking for treasure machine started bleeping he had dug down 4foot before he realised he was wearing steel toecap boots

My family’s claim to fame was about 20 yrs ago, when we had an allotment situated just inside the town park where we live, on waste ground which had been there for many years. My father in law was planting a new rhubarb plant and was digging a large trench. On bringing his fork out of the ground he found what he thought was an old curtain ring but after wiping the mud off he discovered it had jewels set in it. Being an exceptionally honest person, he took it straight to the local police station where it was duly logged after some amusement from the police officer at the thought of anyone claiming it after being buried 3 feet down. Of course we got to keep when it wasn’t claimed after a month and we took it to be valued and to find out how old it was. Although it was worth less than £150 it was interesting as we were told it was an Edwardian betrothal/wedding ring, apparently they had combined ones with a gold wedding band set with 3 stones, this one has 2 tiny diamonds and a garnet. It was interesting to think of a possible “lovers tiff” in the park and the girl (or the fella!) flinging the ring over the fence onto the allotments, or maybe sadly it was just lost in the park! When FIL died I got the lovely ring and wear it every day, but always think of how it was found.
Himself and some of the kids discovered a human finger.
Yikes sherrard, thankfully not the rest of him. What did you do?
He called the police (it was an old finger, don't know how himself knew it was a finger though - shady past maybe?). They came round straight away and took it away but never heard anymore (we did move out of the area shortly after so don't know if they ever tried to get in touch about it).
no pun intended, sherrard ^
Blurdy hell Sher!!!
