Stay hopeful! My 16 year old baby had to go through exactly the same thing in August - worst time of my life - I've had her since she was five weeks old. She'd seen me through so much including a heartbreaking divorce. She was the one constant in my life and I too was lost without her - I couldn't even stay at home while she spent the weekend at the vets on the drip. I had almost come to terms with the fact that when I went to collect her after the weekend it would be to take her home to die. However! - She had started improving almost immediately and is now fully recovered and back to normal! Turns out she was dehydrated and her kidneys were suffering (she has suffered from kidney stones for the past year on and off). Yours isn't on dried food is she? It seems that cats tend not to drink enough when on dried food, they should drink more than usual. I now put bowls of water for mine in every room and it just reminds her to drink every time she passes one. I also take a bowl to her every night and she does drink from it. Stay positive, I hope it works out.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you ,it's so awful when this happens, you feel in limbo as you cannot do anything only hope and pray .g
Poor cat! Fingers crossed for you; I'm sure she'll be fine.

Tabitha had to be put to sleep today. She ended up having an xray & they found a massive tumour in her stomach! She wouldn\'t have survived an operation at her age. I\'m very upset but i know i\'ve done all i could for her & she didn\'t suffer for long. She\'s had a great life & been spoilt rotten. The worse thing for me was having to tell my husband(we are separated but he loved that cat as much as me & is gutted!)
Thanks everyone for your kind words &support. xx

Sincere good wishes. You did the right thing.

If it should be....
If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
and pain should keep me from my sleep,
then you must do what must be done,
for we know this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand,
but don't let grief then stay your hand,
for this day, more than the rest,
your love and friendship must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years,
what is to come can hold no fears.
Would you want me to suffer? So,
when the time comes, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend,
only stay with me until the end,
and hold me firm and speak to me,
until my eyes no longer see.

It is a kindness that you do to me,
although my tail it's last has waved,
from pain and suffering I have been saved.

Do not grieve, it should be you,
who must decide this thing to do.
We've been so close, we two these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
I am sorry to hear your news, 20yrs is a long time but it is still a loss to loose her.

I hope you can gain comfort from the fact that she had a good time with you..
I also am aware of what you are feeling as i have lost many an animal which has been dearly loved. Hope all does go well and when she comes home spoil her rotten. Thinking of you.
Im so sorry ive just read your last post after i posted a reply, my thoughts are with you and your husband, if you bought her home why not do the same as i have with my animals i have a special place she liked to lie in the garden and made that her buriel plot with name plagues and photos that i had printed on white tiles and stuck them to a wooden crosses. Take care.
I am sorry to hear that your little girl has gone to pussy cat heaven. She was a good age though and has a pampered life.

You have lost a member of your close family - take time to grieve and punch anybody who says "she was just a cat" .

Best wishes.
