Some of us who use Nexus tablets are experiencing virus problems from something apparently acquired on AB

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/AB-Editors-Blog/Question1450154.html

I'm using Chrome as a browser and I'm not going down the revert to factory settings route. Otherwise, can anyone help getting rid of the virus please?

Many thanks

I might have sounded a bit terse there hc, not intended :

anyhoo, to add irony/insult to injury, now the flaming thing's logged me out of AB on the Nexus and won't let me log back in again, so that's that!
Question Author
cross posted there ABEd, ok,

I hope the log in problem's a separate issue then
A tad more time vetting Ad's, instead of posting really interesting "polls"?
Can you possibly try sending me a screenshot of the page you're taken to HS?

We've still not been able to replicate it here.
It's not one or the other Ozzy.

Glad you've decided to contribute so positively though, thanks.
Any time ;-)

I'll have a go Ed, though I don't think it's a page as such, just a clickable next portion of the ad - if that makes sense?
Question Author
nope, won't have it. It looks like another pop-up box,not a page though
Same virus as on OP link today on tablet but not on iphone am using now.
Okay, thank you. What does the box say?
Question Author
It says

"The page at www.mobilean-tivirus.com says:
WARNING!WHILE YOU LOOKING AT THIS PAGE.
Your phone has (13) Virus!
The Virus may comput you data.
Please follow the instructions to remove Virus
OK"

with the OK a clickable link

Does that help?

@Ed

While you're there and Ads are on-topic, I would like to describe a thing which keeps bugging me.

On iPhone, the letters I, O and P are so close to the "Done" button that typing too fast or too clumsily and mis-hitting causes the popup keyboard to drop down. If it is a double o or a double p being typed the second tap can land on
i) the Submit button, truncating the post or
ii) The advert panel, directly underneath the submit button.

Personally, I have only ever clicked on Ads by accident; while trying to scroll the page or zoom in and select a portion of text, for instance. It's an ergonomics problem. If the Ad was on the left and the Best answer paragraph was on the right, the problem might be solved.

@humbersloop

I just googled the phrase "the purpose of fake virus alerts" and found this, amongst other links not trying to sell anything

http://www.which.co.uk/technology/computing/guides/how-to-spot-an-online-scam/how-to-spot-a-fake-virus-alert/

You may have done it by accident but the ad gets an extra hit so it MAY be the ad is placed on the right for that very reason [only a guess mind]
Virus takes you to download "360 Security Antivirus free app."
@Tambo

Why would anyone want to let you have an Antivirus app for free?

What's the catch?

Question Author
^^thanks Hypo
@Humbersloop

You're welcome.

@Tambo

I have yet to work out if iPhones really are bulletproof or if it is because their share of the worldwide mobile market is now down to 20%, so virus makers just don't think they're worth the effort?

Thanks, got that one as well as two others - I'm not 100% that they are displaying the real destination/source.
Hi Tambo, that was very useful, we just blocked a little nest of those ads too. Cheers!
