Sleeping Beauty

10:25 Fri 09th Jul 2010 |

Sleeping Beauty is a classic fairytale with a happy ending. The 1959 Walt Disney film is based on the fairy tale "La Belle au bois dormant" by Charles Perrault and was the last fairy tale to be produced by Walt himself and was truly the end of an era. This film is undoubtedly one of the studios most artistically beautiful.

Due to its fantastically stunning artwork many viewers thought that the film would appeal more to adults who could appreciate the visuals which children often are not interested in. However, it is a classic in the Disney portfolio and a must for all those little princesses out there.

Princess Aurora, whilst still an infant, is betrothed to Prince Philip, the son of a neighbouring king. However, she is cursed by an evil fairy Maleficent and is then taken to live a secret life in the forest with her three fairy godmothers Flora, Fauna and Merryweather. As her sixteenth birthday approaches the princess meets and falls in love with a handsome stranger who happens to be the prince she is betrothed to. Unfortunately, Maleficent has discovered the princess' whereabouts and manages to trick Aurora into touching a spinning wheel and she falls into an enchanted sleep which can only be broken by true love’s kiss. As the princess falls asleep so does the rest of the castle to await the Prince.
