I sometimes let my little Westie dog sleep on my bed (at the foot end- not 'in' the bed!) with me, my mum go's mad at me saying it is not hygienic. She is a bit right I guess but I have told her it is not uncommon for a dog to sleep on his masters bed. Come on guys back me up here "Dog on Bed?" Right or Wrong? Thanks

dog/ cat on bed... keeps you warm when it is cold, listen to you complain, snuggle with you when you are upset, never argue back, don't tell you what to do and, just like a mum love you unconditionally. No brainer.. on the bed all the time! Very unlikley to spread illness to you and may help recovery when you are ill.

No, it's not working!
A dog is a dog and should know it's place in the home ie the bottom of the pack, that's when a dog is happy. It should have it's own bed and not be allowed on sofas or beds.
dave50 our dogs know their place perfectly well, its curled up on the sofas with us whenever they want, why is that a problem?
Our dog and cat sleep downstairs in their beds under the sideboard (at least that's where I leave them, dog is still there in the morning). First thing in the morning dog is let out in the garden and then charges straight upstairs for a cuddle and play on the bed. He is followed, in stately fashion, by the cat. He stays on the bed whilst we shower and dress, then comes downstairs. From that point on I always know where to find cat!
Wrong. But you can't watch them all the time, that's why I don't have any.
Heh ratter, love the one half sat on the sofa!

As ratter's said, I love my dog in bed with me, something really comforting about a fuzzy hot water bottle at the back of my knees, I don't care about 'pack mentality', we're both happy with our nightime ritual :-)
dave, pack theory has been long discredited and your post is just so much bollix
They're beauties, Ratter, I'm very envious :))
Thanks seeker, the one sat on the edge of the sofa is Keeva, she often sits like that to watch TV. We hope to have a litter from her in the new year. :-)
Lovely dogs, Ratter.
Thanks Jourdain :-)
If the owner is OK with it then it's NOT wrong. How can it be? It's only wrong if the dog is doing it against the owner's wishes. It's not for anybody else to say it's wrong if I let my dog sleep in my bed in my house! So there!

Gorgeous Ratter, all four of you;-))
Thanks ladybirder :-)
For heavens sake it's well known if one stays over at a country house one is asked whether or not one is warm enough or if one would like another dog on the bed.
