I've had a serious issue to address today ... which are better ... peas, or petits pois?

Obviously the answer is peas. I mean, why do shops even sell those horrid little petits pois things?

I know what you mean... seepy peas are great but do take a while... as a Yorkshireman though nipping into a chippy and having quality ones is easy.
I'm not actually a great fan of mushy peas but they do seem to go quite well with some things (and I agree that the canned ones are acceptable - indeed, I quite like tinned garden peas and petit pois).

However I do remember that mushy peas formed part of one of the worst meals I've ever had. I ordered 'pie and peas' in a pub in Huddersfield, expecting it to be the same as in Sheffield (where it's meat-&-potato pie, served with mushy peas, which can be rather tasty). I'd not realised that the Huddersfield version is a hot pork pie (also served with mushy peas). When you heat a pork pie all of the fat and jelly oozes out and forms a congealed mess with the mushy peas. Ugh!
That sound disgusting Chris...Did you eat it?
It's amazing how one's taste buds change. As a kid, I used to hate mushy peas;however, now I quite like them. Chris, the last portion of your post somehow reminded me of "The Picture Of Dorian Gray".
Probably not much of it, Mazie!

That pork pie should definitely have remained in the attic, Stuey!

(However friends from that part of Yorkshire tell me that it's regarded as a local 'delicacy'!)
Blimey Chris that doesent seem even remotely tempting... I'm more closer to 'Harry Ramsdens'
There's a difference ? They're small spherical green veg. Surely one is just the foreign name for the other ?
No, OG; vichyssoise is much posher and tastier that cold potato and leek soup.
OG, no, petits pois are smaller and sweeter than ordinary peas, quite different!
Ah, it seems only because they have been cropped whilst still immature, and so have not used much of their sugar supply. When I was a small lad I was not keen on "garden peas" compared to processed peas simply because they were sweet, and my dinner was savoury. Mismatch.
It has to be peas. Petit pois have no taste. If I'm only cooking for two i microwave them in a clean Chinese takeaway plastic dish.
