This behaviour is no doubt a product of peoples narcissistic desire to 'amuse' by being the first to post the footage on YouTube, Facebook or wherever.

Never heard of a similar instance of this happening before. Has the internet de-sensitised some people?

Could it also be that for lonely people it could be a way to communicate with others. I think it all depends on how you use it.
I guess the 'net has changed me, as I am now better informed that I ever was prior to 1995, when I first started surfing.

But without any doubt whatsoever, the internet has changed the world, in ways that Caxton could never have dreamed about. The world is a very different place than before, and mostly for the better.

divebuddy // think VHG's post is very good. You see so many people who don't actually truly experience "the moment", they are too busy taking a crap photo of it. //

Absolutely.

I wonder what people actually do with all those photos they take at events? I have never ever taken a photo with my mobile, just a generation thing I guess, but I go to loads of gigs, and people are snapping away like David Bailey all night long! I just enjoy the gig and go home - no-one I know wants a photo, and I don't, so why bother?
