Yes it may be called political point scoring but aren't all politicians guilty of that?

One has to admit Nigel has a point, since multi-cultism we are slowly losing our well known British humour, one has to so careful these days not to upset or offend members of our ethnic minorities.

Jim, if something doesn't work why keep on with it? Why should any country be subjected to living with other peoples just because they want to come to your country and that includes Brits going elsewhere too. No indigenous people should have to give up things to accommodate other tribes where they be. The rpoblem so it brings far outweighs any good IMO which is...

Jim, the acts of atrocity are far more widespread now than when I was your age, in fact we hardly heard of them nor had to live in fear because of them. I know which era I would prefer to live in if we could stop what was happening now.
The massive-publicity acts may be, but in general the world is becoming a safer place to live.

Multiculturalism fails to work if people spend too much time focusing on their differences rather than their similarities. This is, though, something that can be fixed. And, given time, will be.
Do people even know what they mean when they talk about "multiculturalism".
Because it sounds like a good thing to me.
The alternative is apartheid or cultural imperialism it seems to me. Or indeed something along the lines of what extreme Islam seems to espouse

And don't you agree that the visitors from other lands and who chose to settle in this country of ours, should be the first to integrate with us and our culture of thousands of years, instead of us changing to fit in with theirs?

And don't anyone bother to state that this country is only ours by the good fortune to have been born here.
If 'they' don't integrate then they aren't part of the 'multi' and therefore outside this discussion, surely.

Can anyone here list the last time they reigned themselves in so as not to offend someone from an ethnic minority.

I cannot.

No it is not, we are more civilised than that, we managed to produce a country of good hard working and ingenious people, haven't most tried to copy our Parliamentary system and have they not benefited from our ingenious inventions and know-how etc etc.
We should integrate with each other. It's hardly multiculturalism if immigrants are obliged to abandon theirs in its entirety. The point ought to be that each culture contributes roughly in proportion to each other. This is actually not all that far from reality; unfortunately, some people are determined to ruin it.
Merkel said over 4 years ago that it had failed. She was probably just reading the writing on the wall:

There's hope for you, jim. Unlike some of the old recividists here who vote Labour, fail, vote Labour again.(as if, if you keep doing the same thing over and over you might one day get a different result)
You're young, intelligent, idealistic, which is good start. Now we'll just have keep chipping away at 25 years of educational Marxism and BBC, MSM indoctrination.
I have high hopes for you and though you probably don't think it now, you will thank me one day. ;-)
The sort of people you work with would be here anyway, jim.
Who wouldn't be here are the slave labourers who lower working-class wages and keep our own poor out of work and the uneducated ghetto-dwellers who don't wish to integrate but are a rich hunting ground for terrorist recruiters.
The west’s idealistic concept of multiculturalism is fast beginning to prove unachievable. Take Islam out of the equation and we might have more success.
"No it is not, we are more civilised than that, we managed to produce a country of good hard working and ingenious people, haven't most tried to copy our Parliamentary system and have they not benefited from our ingenious inventions and know-how etc etc. "

Good for us: but explain why you think that any of that has to do with the Paris shootings (I'd ask Farage instead but it's easier to ask people here :-) ) Maybe.
Meanwhile I'll speculate that what you REALLY mean is that white, "western" folk are civilised and that if somehow we wished all the nasty people away life would be so much better.
Great idea!
"If 'they' don't integrate then they aren't part of the 'multi' and therefore outside this discussion, surely. "

That touches on what I think is the confusion about "multiculturalism" Some people seem to think it means different cultures living along side each other and others seem to think it means some sort of amorphous, mono-cultural hash. Which makes it hard to discuss in that case
I happen, like Jim, to think that you can't really stop people of different cultures living together, especially these days. Even if you wanted to.
But like I say, what any of this has to do with events under discussion goodness knows

ichkeria, Not sure why you threw the ‘white’ bit in there. All immigrants aren’t black. You can speculate all you like - but he’s right.

//I happen, like Jim, to think that you can't really stop people of different cultures living together, especially these days.//

All well and good if they do live together – but some of them don’t.
///But like I say, what any of this has to do with events under discussion goodness knows///
If you mean what does multi-culti have to do with terrorist attacks? I'd have thought the answer was self evident.
No I don't see what it has to do with these attacks, although as I said before not being sure what Farage or anyone else means by multiculturalism, it is hard to discuss.
It just seems to be a "catch-all" term, and the implications of what it days about Farage are "interesting". Is he just a rabid soundbiter after votes or is he really an apartheid-style racist after all.
