I have viewed some Youtube videos as a prelude to buying Elite: Dangerous and amongst those are one or two that include use of VoiceAttack to control some aspects of the game.

Does anyone recommend that for voice control of games in general? Are there any good alternatives?

I use VoiceAttack in Elite Dangerous because I don't have enough fingers when they are all occupied doing something else. Out of interest I used the free version to keybind vocally some Battlefield 4 commands and found they worked quite well. After that I purchased the full version which enables you to have more than one profile and set one up for Elite Dangerous. I believe you can use VoiceAttack in any game provided you can alter the keybindings.
Meant to add. If you play with others in 'chat' using something like 'Teamspeak/Ventrilo' it can become quite confusing when others hear you muttering commands to VoiceAttack. ☺☺☺

I do not use VoiceAttack if I'm in a group chat.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Looks like I'll have to give it a try (I don't do any chatting so that aspect won't be a problem for me).
I think the full version is about the equivalent of £5, depends on the exchange rate.
