On-the-up Irish singer in Italian city district (6) -I-L-O. Have thought about Giglio using Gigli + O, but that's an island. Also, Cleric's title put in front of name (4): -E-N. (According to theme must be name of mathematician). And anyone who's done the puzzle who can give a satisfactory parsing of 23 ac - must be NEWTON and 20 d - must be SUNSET, would be most grateful.

Thanks all. Never heard of 'ton' for fashion before. Also thought the 'not completely visible county must be Dorset or Somerset - thus SUNSET. VEN as a clerical title also new to me.
Venerable , thank you too
