I moved house this week and a BT engineer came and re-installed my fibre box, connected it to my TalkTalk D-Link router and everything was fine. On Thursday my internet light on my router turned red and I have been unable to get a connection back. All the other necessary lights on my modem and router are green and TalkTalk are sending an engineer...next Thursday!
I feel sure there must be something simple I am missing. I have unplugged, re-plugged, re-set re-booted everything, checked all the cables but all to no avail.
I can get into the D-Link web page and there are red lights on my internet and adsl connections although I am not connected via asdl.
Can anyone offfer any advice as I am having to mooch round friends and relatives to botrrow their wi-fi and am just lost without having access at home?
Many thanks in advance.

My guess is you are connecting to the router just fine. The problem is the router isn't connecting properly to the internet due to a fault at the 'other' end - nothing you can do but wait for the engineer

Have you tried switching it off and on again? Seriously.
Isn't unplugging the same as turning off? I think it is...

As I said, I have taken out and put back in every plug, re-booted, reset everything but no joy!
I must have skipped that bit. Apologies.

methyl I find your answer very inappropriate and unhelpful. I explained my problem - the package has nothing to do with it as everything was working as it should to start with.
Telling me to talk 'politely' to TalkTalk implies that I have not been doing so. I have been but even if I had been extremely rude that is none of your business, so if you make a comment on someone's post please be more constructive or keep your opinions to yourself!
Alicat58...I am with you here. I don't think you deserved the somewhat rude reply that you had. Methyl...go and sit on the naughty step please.

Anyway, Ali...is your internet fixed now ? I have to say your story rings true for service from TalkTalk. Consider moving to another ISP. I am with BT and have been for 20 years.

Thank you Mikey! I am expecting a visit from an engineer on Thursday so awaiting patiently. I have been with TalkTalk since they first started broadband and have to say that after their initial teething troubles, I have had no problem with them, plus I am paying far less than I would with BT.
I suspect the problem must be with the router which I brought with me from my last address. I was getting a steady 38 mbs wifi with the medium fibre package. My initial speed test in the new house was slower but I am further from the exchange so this was to be expected.
I am going to look into getting a better router at some point, although I have discovered that if I use my TalkTalk mobile as a wifi connection it is not using any of my data allowance so I am accessing the internet, although very slowly via 3g.
