If you have an upset stomach, what foods can you eat to help solidify your stomach? I always thought bananas were good for that. Any others?

A couple years ago I had problems with my stomach, in that I was going to the toilet way too many times in a day. The doctor advised me to eat really dark chocolate, 70% to 90% as there is something in there that dries you up (sorry). He also advised me to drink flat lemonade which helps replenish the salts you lose. Hope this helps.

Porridge Oats
Whenever I have had an upset tummy, I have ususally started back to eating with toast and marmite or crackers and marmite - no butter on either - always seemed to work ok and not make me feel ill again.
Plain carbohydrates and avoid dairy for a while.
Dry toast, plain rice and plain poached chicken.
I was always told not to eat for 24hrs if I had a bad stomach, but I'd take that with a pinch of salt (my mother is not a doctor :-)

Keep up the fluid intake as you will probably be a bit dehydrated x
Sometimes I fast for 24 hours drinking only distilled water. Should flush out any germs you may have.
I'm always intrigued by these threads.

When I was a child my mother insisted I drank boiled water and ate dry toast.

As an adult I eat whatever I fancy after a stomach upset.

Is there any sound medical reasoning for favouring particular foods over others after stomach upsets?

The only thing I've heard- which may or may not be right- is that dairy can "feed" diarrhoea and keep it going for longer. I suppose plain foods might be more tempting if you're feeling a bit delicate, but i doubt much will do you any harm. As carers, we were always taught to give clear liquids - water, lemonade etc, but more recently, a doctor advised me to give orange squash, as it has vitamins in it...
I suppose all our metabolisms are different, just eat what you can manage.
I think your body will tell you, anyway. If you're a bit queasy and can't bear the thought of something- don't eat it. Otherwise, whatever you fancy. Just keep up the fluids.
I can't eat anything if I have a stomach upset.

Exactly right.
I had a very serious stomach upset after a trip to India, but an Indian doctor advised me to stick to plain yogurt, boiled rice and bananas.
It worked but took a few days, and I developed quite a taste for it!

I was told by my health visitor many years ago to give the kids flat coke and corn beef stovies to help replace salt levels.
I was told apples would help, because of their pectin content,
