Looks like a bad clue, as the wordplay suggests Ed Woods (anag of odd woes). The setter needs a new plan (nine from outer space).

It would have to be Ed Woods, coz it's a 2 and a 5 but I think that'll have to fit... anagram of "ODD WOES" and I can change the letter "A" easily enough
