Been waiting for someone else to ask: 23a. Channel turning minister 1 down part 2 (7). I have C - L - I - T. CELLIST? CULTIST? Both fit, but I can't see why. 1d is STINGING INSECT, so part 2 would be INSECT (unless it is only meant to look like a reference to that clue), but I'm still no farther on.

turning minister = rev eversed = VER
1 down part 2 = insect so put that ^ in CULT

Wonderful, thank you! The IN-SECT bit is especially devious. I see I got one of the crossing letters wrong, ILEUM, and that clue also is devious: "Currency located in compiler's gut" (though it is stretching things a bit to equate "compiler is" to "I am").
