.
my ipad won't play videos or links, never has, but was yours ok before you went away ?
Question Author
Yes never had a problem.
I'm sure there are others far more cluey than me, but I wonder if perhaps while recharging on your holiday, some gremlins got in ... I know this sounds a bit fanciful, but did you use an adaptor for the electrics ?
this is what puts me off getting an Ipad Caran I would not have a clue what to do, I hope you get it sorted quickly.
Cara, I've found google chrome to be a tad unstable on the iPad recently so I've reluctantly started using Safari again.
Question Author
Tried it on safari and I can play videos. I will have to do AB that way now. Sad as I have always used google chrome.
Can you find anything on your iPad related to Adobe Flash Player software?

If you can, then look for menu options like "Help | About Flash", click it and find out the version number.

Then visit the Adobe website and try to find out if there is an update to be downloaded and installed.

Web browsers, like Chrome may require an additional Flash Player download, of the "Addon" or "Plugin" variety. I do not know about Chrome specifically but, in Firefox, I go to the menu option which takes me to the page where I can review what Addons/Plugins I have installed and each item in the list may, at times, have a button marked "Upgrade" and it looks after the installation process for you.

There was an upgrade to Adobe Air earlier this week and I think there was an apdate to Adobe Flash player the week before.

In other words, the fact you were away on holiday was significant.

As you've now seen that videos work correctly in Safari, then you know for certain that there is no hardware problem at the root of it.

It ought to be possible to import your Chrome favourites into Safari with a single click but I don't own an iPad and cannot give you the details. Hopefully bumping the thread will allow someone else to advise on that.

Hypo, you can't get flash on the iPad.
@rockyracoon

Oh?

Does that mean that certain games - especially the sort that Facebook peddles - are unplayable using iPad?

(Not a bad thing, if so). ;-)
Yep, bit of a pain sometimes, especially for FB Scrabble which I enjoy.
There are apps that get around it but the one I tried wasn't great so I just do without. A lot of websites are optimising for the iPad so it's getting to be less of an issue than it was before.
Question Author
Thanks for the suggestion Hypognosis, I tried to get flash player. A while back but discovered I can't get it. It was working until my daughter (bless her) disabled my google chrome. She said reinstalling it would possibly solve some other problems I had.
Cara, do you get a message when you try to play videos?
Question Author
No message rocky just nothing, I see the red arrow/triangle pointer, click on it, it disappears then nothing happens. Sorry I am so late, just logged on.
I usually get a message telling me it won't work on mobile devices.
Hi Caran,

I found a video with a solution (4:47 but rambles a lot and can be summed up very few words, see below).

Slightly ironic, given video playback is the problem but at least you should be able to view it in Safari or IE

The person who made this video believes that the problems emerged after an upgrade to IOS6. I'm not sure if this applies in your case?

Anyway, from the Home Screen:
1) Go to Settings
2) Scroll down and click on 'Reset'
3) Select 'Reset all Settings'
4) A popup warning appears but assures you that user data and programs will not be lost
5) Click Continue.

When you return to YouTube, its appearance will have changed and the problem videos should now work.
