Went for lunch today to pub/restaurant, the waitress brought the Blackboard with the specials on it! carott and corriander soup, guiness steak pie, sheppards pie, she noticed we were amused by it and asked what was wrong we pointed out the spelling mistakes she said she had written it and admitted she was at University, good job she wasn't studying English Language etc her topic was History. Just goes to show you don't need a University education for common sense and spelling!

I once saw a good one on a construction site: "This water is portable."
I can never understand how signwriters can make such mistakes though - in my village there's a huge sign on the side of a factory unit for a business called "Grandpa's Remote Control Hobby's". Drives me mad when I see it. And I would never use the local printers whose sign outside said "We will print your Wedding Stationary".
The organisation I work for (an exam board!!) often tell me that the "stationary" I have ordered will be dispatched asap. Fortunately it isn't "stationary" as I usually receive my stationery pretty quickly.
why would you start sniggering at her and point it out?
they are hardly amusing mistakes - they're just basic errors
Carlbeing: If you think that today's standards of written English are deplorable, just look at the postings in Answerbank...yours included. Your English usage would get you a C- grading in any university, if not a D or below. Sloppy writing is tolerable, but not when it's for public consumption.

The remark, 'Physician, heal thyself', made by Jim360 is apposite here. You are in no position to judge waitresses, or anyone else, unless you can write, spell and punctuate better than in this initial offering of yours.
Had an e:mail today commencing:

"Hi Lardy

Hope your well."

Hope my what is well?
Not sure lardhelmet whether you are being asked if you're well or a question is being posed about a Well you may have in your garden. Well it's for you to work out.

However, I sincerely hope you are well.

Al.
