I have a laptop operating Windows 7 and am the only user and the Administrator.
I have been using Serif Page Plus 6 for graphics work for years with no problems but have just upgraded to Page Plus 7. On attempting to insert an image from My Documents into a page I am getting a message saying "You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the owner or Administrator to obtain permission." I have spent time with Serif's Customer Care department but finally they are unable to help me as they say this is a Windows problem.
I can import images from an outside storage devise and from my desktop but that is all.
Does any member have a suggestion to rectify this Windows problem?

Just because you're the Administrator, Windows 7 doesn't automatically give you Administrator privileges. You might need to ask for them. Try going to the Start menu and right-clicking on the entry for PagePlus 7, then on Properties > Advanced and selecting 'Run as administrator'

Yes Windows is a pain in the rear for that sort of thing. The excuase is tat it stops malicious stuff doing things, as I understand it.

Unsure if it will help but google "take ownership of" and see if you can find an application that allows you to take ownership of files and directories. It may help.
The excuse is that it ...
like I typed >:-(
Right click the file that you want to take ownership of and select properties. At the top select the Security tab, select advanced options.
There should be an ownership tab (from memory) and you can take ownership from here. Apply the changes and and close the window.
Re-select Properties and Security. On the first page select Edit Permissions and the Add. Type in your user account name and it should certify the action, check the Full Control box below and Apply the changes.
That should do the job. I have recited this from memory, if it does not work I'll check again or find a link for you.
Good luck.

Thanks WyeDyed, I was aware of some similar process but can't get it right. I would appreciate if you can find the time to check it out and inform me. I have now found that I have the same situation on my Windows 7 PC.
I'm at work until about this time tomorrow. I will try and give you a definitive answer then (I don't have a Win 7 machine at home at the mo but I do in work)

Thanks you all for your suggestions.
Interestingly enough the problem has now resolved itself on my laptop, but is still effecting my PC.
I tried so many remedies that I now don't know which one did the trick.
