This chap appears to be somewhat annoyed that he has been given a life time ban from teaching. But what other penalty would be appropriate for a man whose actions were described by the Department of Education as "violent, threatening and targeted at young children."

I think two things are being lumped together as one here.
There has been / is a problem that teachers who are found to be unsuitable are sometimes (often ?) allowed to leave one post with a reference and take another post . Most of these are just 'not up to the job & can't cope ' but not a threat.
However, there have been a few who are a threat but they have been allowed to leave quietly as the head teachers just can't face the hassle of a court case, and the possibility of losing and having to pay compensation and take them back.
You need to remember that children now are not all 'saints' ,a minority are fully able to make a protest against a teacher knowing that the teachers career can very easily be ruined.
F 30 ( I think) is a teacher and has posted on this subject. A nervous teacher will find his / her life hell if the kids find out that they can take advantage.
This person has used every legal manipulation to wriggle out of previous charges but has finally got his comeuppance. The authorities will be very glad to see the back of him , but it is significant that he has got a job with the BNP where he will get paid to continue his campaign.
Thank God he will never be able to teach again !

once checked by the crb and given a clean bill of health so to speak, if they commit another crime, of whatever type, how will it show up if they already had a check done and they deliberately choose not to disclose it. It could be any number of years in the new job before the matter comes to light, so it's not right to say that teachers or anyone working with children cannot go back into the profession if caught out before. Like the DWP they seem to have no national database that links everything, so NUT, the police, social services, and anyone with connections to people who work with children, should be able to access data that pertains to that individual. The NUT is a very strong body, and it doesn't seem to like being criticised, and i seriously don't get why a bloke who was looking at indecent images of children, should be allowed back, it's absurd.
em10 , yesterday at 08.34 I explained that a CRB check only lasts for 3 years. So anyone in a job that needs a check will only last 3 years max as it needs to be renewed after that time!. I also explained that a person who has a CRB check has by law to disclose any new convictions and can be imprisoned for failure to do this . Do you actually read the posts ?
