Theresa May, in a speech to the Police Federation, has called for a change in sentencing, whereby someone who murders a police officer should serve a whole-life tariff.... agree, or disagree?

Disagree. The judge will give a minimum period which has to be served before the prisoner is eligible for parole and can increase the figure when the victim is a police officer acting as such. He can be ordered to serve a full life term, too. But I applaud Mrs May for cynically appealing to an audience of police officers. A truly expert politician.

I agree but it should include others who put themselves in danger to save others. I'm thinking of firemen and some medics who are killed whilst trying to do their duty. We have to ackowledge the fact that there are degrees of murder and some are more despicable than others.
To me a child murderer should always get a full life sentence whilst a drug dealer or inter gang murders fall into a different catorgary. and the judge should use his discretion.

What happened to equality?
it was once a capital offence, perhaps she is trying to redress the balance,

As modeller said, there are degrees of murder. However, I don't see why killing a policeman is necessarily worse than killing anyone else.
Re youngmahafbob's point: Not all police officers are there to put their lives on the line.
I don't really understand why murdering a police officer is more serious than murdering anyone else, and it could well be a cynical attempt to curry favour at the conference.

However, I'm not too bothered about either of the above. If the end result is that life will mean life for more murderers that it does at the moment, then I'm in favour of it.
