Where do they get these people from ?

On Saturday night, one of the contestants got the answer to "Where is the Algarve" wrong, when he said it was in Spain. The other ones he could have chosen were Ireland and Portugal.

It wouldn't have been so bad but he said that he had recently had a holiday on the Algarve ? How anybody can have a holiday in a country but not know which country he was in escapes me. Perhaps it was a mystery tour !

Do you think the BBC get its contestants from an advert in the back pages of the Radio Times that says "Thick people wanted for prime time TV program" ?

I find - sadly - that some people don't even know in which direction they are jetting off to, let alone which country they are visiting. Young friend of mine went to the Canaries last year - no idea that it was a 4-hour flight, and not in the Med....

But justice was seen to be done, as he crashed out with no money whatsoever, so there is a God after all !
YES
Glad to see it's not only me that notices these things.Although it didn't happen this week when someone gives answers like that they keep coming back thus suppressing the prize pot for those who could win a reasonable sum of money.Still at least it beats watching and far worse listening to Nick Knowles on that programme of his.Perhaps they might bring back winning lines which i think was probably the best game show linked to the National Lottery draw.

I can't see that the BBC is doing itself any favours by allowing such intellectually-challenged people to make such fools of themselves on TV.

I know that the Lotto program isn't "Just Connect" or "University Challenge" but surely there must be some kind of selection process ?

Does anyone know how people are chosen for the Lotto thingy ?

About 25 years ago, I tried for inclusion in a ITV quiz show called "Busman's Holiday" All the contestants met at a hotel and we were tested on our general knowledge. This test was quite difficult, and the questions were asked very briskly, leaving only a few seconds in between each one. My Team failed as one of us just couldn't answer quick enough. ( it wasn't me ! )

Is the same procedure used for quiz shows today I wonder ?
It's Only Connect Mikey
15-2-1 had a mock game as a test of suitability. Most of the quizzes now don't seem to have any selection procedure.
