I love psychological experiments. I can guarantee you that the 'experiment' was in the preface... It said the 'test' would last no longer than 1 hour, the fact that most people would turn away at that point means you've eliminated the portion of the population that wou didn't want to test... I don't see where your figures come from , Gizmonster, as I thought there were 6 chambers and only one had been eliminiated; but I know you and vascop are good at this sort of thing so I'd better re-read the problem
It says in the problem that the bullets are in consecutive positions. so if we number the positions 1-6 with bullets in positions 5 and 6 then remembering that the friend fires a blank, the only possibilities are:
F(riend) position 1 Y(ou) position 2
F position 2 Y position 3
F position 3 Y position 4
F position 4 Y position 5
The first 3 situations you survive but in the fourth you die so chances of dying are 1 in 4.
Thanks- I don't remember reading that- I just remember thinking that some aspects of the problem were unclear and I'd want the option to clarify the issues before selecting 'spin' or 'not spin'.
I will re-read shortly
The problem is solved if you use a Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol instead of a revolver. Consider the 17 round magazine with only one round in the magazine, the probability of blowing your head off is er ....

The question was mathematical, 2 bullets, 6 chambers, spin + miss by friend.... "Do you take gun and fire, or spin chamber first?" Well mathematically the answer is simple (but I wont give you my response)

On top of this you allow the participant to view 'other participant choices' - which really means you can tell them that 5 of 30 (in my case) chose one option, and then ask for feed back of if this affected your decision on the next page.

Not to mention the way you phrased your question on AB. I very much doubt you need 500 participants to meet your criteria for your assignment as results from psych experiments are always averaged/worked out from how ever many participants there are. - Though I'll admit, the science page on AB is a good way to recruit the demographic you wanted...

I think that's all - I'm trying to get the spot of 'Best Answer' and I've not got one yet :( - Maybe you can rectify that? :)

*"...allow the participant to view 'other participant choices' - which really means..." - Should be followed by, you are then able to tell them what ever you want to and see how this might affect results :D

(I'm am the product of two psychologists as parents, my up bringing was very hard. I never won an argument, ever!!)
