When I click on Backup and Restore in the control panel absolutely nothing happens. It was working as usual just the other day. Have I pressed something that has disabled it, or has something else happened?
May be purely co-incidental but since you mention Acronis, I noticed that a number of others have had the problem that you describe where they have installed Acronis and were unable to run Windows Backup & Restore ! Is it possible that you have looked at, or somehow unknown to you, had Acronis on your system at anytime or even some other type of Backup / Restore...
Thank you for the suggestion Pinkyboy, I can select it that way but it has exactly the same effect as clicking on it in the control panel, i.e. nothing happens at all. Guess I'll have to shell out for a proper backup program. I quite fancy Acronis, what do others think of this?

Wow! I had the free trial of Acronis which had seemed very good but had expired and so I used system undelete to get rid of it. Exactly as your thread explains. What a pernicious program, I certainly won't be buying that. How on earth did you come across that microsoft thread, it is absolutely brilliant.
As for finding that Microsoft thread I guess it's the result of a number of years learning to 'dig' just that little bit deeper into finding solutions and of course a little bit of luck!
