What's the feeling about the Waitrose anti-Christmas-advert Christmas advert? I'm all in favour of no more extravaganzas, but isn't the charity giving what Waitrose do all year round? I've not been in for a week or two, is this token system different?

I picked up their weekly paper today. Apparently they have saved a million pounds by doing the stripped down ad and are going to funnel it into their green token scheme so shops and the internet shopping site will have more to give away.

Asda have done the token system for local causes for a couple of years now. Is it in place of Christmas advertising or a clever marketing tool? Who can guess.
I think the scrooge effect is not going to do them any good. I also think they will have other ads that will develop the idea maybe. The money they could have spent should be giving joy to others. perhaps that is what they intend to do?
When I saw the ad I thought, well isn't that what they've been doing for years anyway? Maybe I'm missing something.
