Can anyone help please.I have a samsung sgh j 700 and the on switch is very sensitive and switches itself on in my bag with the slightest pressure on it. So when I go to use it I find the battery has gone flat.I do not know how to lock the on switch to stop it doing this.
Any help gratefully received.Thankyou.

//They are designed to be left on in case someone wants to contact you.//

not all people use them like that, I know people that keep them off but keep them for use if they want to phone someone.

From the manual -I'm not familiar with the phone so hope I have understood the question correctly.
Lock your phone
1. In Idle mode, press <Menu> → Settings →
Security settings → Phone lock.
2. Select On.
3. Enter a new 4- to 8-digit password and press
<OK>.
4. Enter the new password again and press <OK>

Thankyou Chelle that all sounds a bit complicated. My last phone all you did was press hash and star and the phone could not be switched on unless you pressed them again.I am sick to deathof going to my phone only to find it has switched on and ran the battery down.
Pressing hash and star usually just locks the keypad. Since this is is a slide phone there is no need to have a keypad lock. I'm confused about what you mean by the phone switching on - most folk leave their phones on all the time so it shouldn't drain your battery that quickly. Do you mean it's not in a kind of sleep mode and the screen is lit up?

Thankyou for your reply Karenmac,
The on switch for this phone is below the screen and can be accessed from the closed position so...when I have it switched off and in my bag or pocket you can unknowingly,by bending over or putting something into your bag press the on switch and hey you have switched it on, and you are not aware of this, and because I rarely use it,when I do the battery will have gone flat.Just wondered if there was someway to lock theon switch when it is in the closed position.I am obviously one of the rare breed or people who do not use a mobile daily.
I see no point in carrying a mobile with you if it is constantly switched off. They are designed to be left on in case someone wants to contact you. Am I misunderstanding the question?

Seems a bit strange to me Ratter but each to their own I guess.
How about getting a cover for it? Something like the pink one here.

Thankyou all for replies,I think we will leave it there, discussing why I have it switched off is not answering my question.I only use my phone for the odd call and emergencies and why keep it switched on when I know no-one will be calling me..I have a phone at home for that.
My apololgies Clematis. If you really want to leave it off, why not remove the battery when you put it in your bag?
lol SB, or just leave it turned off.
