If you are not going to be using Amazon to buy books, also look at Kobo, Nook, Sony eReader and the other eReaders on the market.

If there is no rush, you may want to wait for the Kindle Fire

Aha this is a good answer as I saw the word kobo on a Danish site but didn't know what it meant. Thank you.
I have a kobo and my mum has a kindle. I am able to get books from the local library onto my kobo as my mum cannot. Kindle only recognises MOBI format as kobo is epub. You can convert EPUB to MOBI on a downloaded programme and ebook organiser free which is called CALIBRE. It is very good.
I don't know much about them either! If I buy a Kindle in the USA will I have problems using it in the UK, particularly charging?
While waiting for the Kindle Fire, you can run the kindle program on a PC

You can download and read stuff on PC.
I can also recommend a "non-Kindle" - I have a Cybook Opus and it's great - much more versatile than my daughter's Kindle! I can download books in all kinds of formats (epub, txt etc) and unlike the Kindle, I can buy from other ebook sellers. If your husband wants to buy Danish books, he may be better off with an independent ereader like mine rather than a Kindle. Hope this helps.
