Is there a chance that your batteries need changing in your wall thermostat?
Question Author
I will try them hideaway but the thermostat seems to be working o.k. Thank you for replying -rosy

Tried that, the temperature goes up but doesn't come on and running the water doesn't bring the demand light on either - thank you for the suggestion tho' - rosy
Have you had a drop in water pressure? If the pressure is too low, the boiler will not work. They usually have an alarm, but it's worth checking.

Oh right, but how do I check that please? -rosy

I have found the water pressure gauge, the red line is on 1 (which it says is the minimum it should be) but the white line is on 0. What do I do now please? Is it dangerous? -rosy
Is there a tap in the pipes that go up into the boiler? If so, turn it on gently to see if the white needle shows an increase in pressure. Once the needle shows around 1 1/2 on the dial, the boiler should be able to light. If there's no tap, I'd advise professeional help. The problem is, where has the pressure gone in the first place, since you have a symptom of a leak in the system?
Question Author
Thank you Heathfield. I did find the tap yesterday and as you said, the needle went up, it still didn't light up BUT we found that the powerswitch had accidently been switched off by Mr Posy DUH. Thanks again for replying - rosy
Mr Posy must be like me Rosy only I do it on purpose. I often turn the heating off at the boiler at this time of year as my wife would have it going all year round with doors and windows open if the house got too hot. I do leave the hot water on though.
