My Best years are now.....
15:58 Fri 20th Apr 2012
being able to dance the night away, wear hot pants and look good. That really was the fun part, much after being drudgery, work, work and more work.
Yes, I was lucky enough to see the Beatles live three times- the first time at a dance before they were very well known and we stood right at the front by the stage- no security. Happy days!
seeing Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five in London, very early in their careers, going to The Lyceum with it sloping floor.... shiny mohair mod suits, ben sherman shirts, and having no cares but the next party, dance.
also seeing Al Green, best singer i had ever heard, and then James Brown, couldn't beat it.
Glam rock. Brill!
Watneys red barrel, barmaids who actually knew how to pull a pint of what we now call real ale.
I miss my energy....................and the fact that everyone in the 60's seemed to have a job.
The school sports field, the dining hall, the dorms ...
being skinny is about all. And the wonderful music - it's all on my iPod, though. I was good at school, but no way I'd want to do it again.
Oh, there was a glorious freedom about being at school. The world was your oyster and, best of all, someone would always bail you out when you muffed things up.
did you board, JJ?
From 11 to 18, yes.
Rowan. From what I read here I find you one of the more attractive ABers so it`s sad that we judge people on how they look. Glad you are not lonely now.
I miss the joy we found in 60s music. The belief that we could change the world. The marches and demonstrations. Isle of Wight Festivals. My long red hair and my flat tummy.
I had an Afghan coat `till my friend dropped a jar of onion juice on it.
Arghhhhh! Just read what tonyav said. I was a sweet smelling hippy. Now I am an ageing hippy, sweet smelling still and loving it.
thought you must have - there's no particular 'freedom' of school when you're actually living at home.
Teenage girls!!!!!!!!!
Being taken to my first Dinner Dance.
Playing tennis at the YMCA.
The coffee shop which served pancakes.
Ogling the choir boys.
Rowing on the park lakes.
Wearing a hat and carrying an umbrella on Sundays.
School and protesting about the uniform. We won!
Jazz clubs.
Better stop there, too many memories.
I was made to leave school at 15. My mother was in a TB sanatorium and my father made me leave school to take care of my siblings. His reasoning was " girls don't need a university education, they just get married and it's wasted" All my teachers disagreed. It didn't change his mind though.
I can't remember much about my teen years. They were quite boring.
Jeza, that is awful. How did you cope?
