I have been told my ESR level is at 36 and the doc has referred me to the hospital. He says its an indication of inflammation somewhere in the body.I have had chronic back pain for 18 months and now the pain has spread down my legs and into my arms. I am beginning to think some form of arthritis but I shall have to wait and see. What is the normal level of ESR as he did not tell me? Many thanks for any info.

Are you female and how old are you?

ESR of 36mms hr COULD be normal.

It is a non specific test.

Female Sqad and now 58. You kindly answered me before when I posted earlier about my back. At least now I seem to be getting somewhere with the doc.

Thank you Sqad, you are always so polite, a pleasure to chat to. I did not too much about this blood test and had a quick look on the internet about ESR as I did not know what it was. Doc says I must wait about 3 weeks to 1 month for the appointment so I'll be back with outcome later. Many thanks for your comments.

Sorry should say worry too much
I usually have a raised level with inflammatory arthritis. It can be raised without being high as such. My ex's ex wife has lupus and she would levels over 100.

Hope you get some help with the pain in the meantime and they get you seen and helped quickly.
