Question Author
i read that post shooty thanks but im still not conviced as the clue clearly states said to create gall is bitterness gaul sounds like
im wondering if any body has submitted online that way we know one way or another
tough decision. they both make sense. good luck with your quest to find the right answer : )
Question Author
thanks man appreciate your time and effort
: )
Gaul
See the earlier post, which I entered late. Surely, GAUL!
I prefer 'Gall'

A member of the crossword club would be helpful here :-)
I think I posted the original query on this. Strictly speaking, they should allow both. I am galled.
Gaul as bitterness is "said" ie implied
Question Author
is there anybody out there who has posted online and got the correct answer
Caesar's conquest (Gaul) said (ie sounds like) to create bitterness = gall

Surely?
This is very ambiguous for a clue which is a homophone. Strictly speaking such ambiguity should only be acceptable if the grid allows you to solve it by solving other clues, but in this case it doesn't.

Having said that I will enter GALL rather than GAUL
I entered GALL online in the xword club and got all correct. Perhaps they are accepting either?
good call imagcq. wait for the setters answer. then curse him/her : )
