Samsung Camera: 3 beeps then power off

Samsung 760 digital camera.powers on screen displays for one second, 3 beeps and powers off. Samsung site/helpline worse than useless. Out of warranty. Should I Pronounce Life Extinct or is there possibility of resuscitation?

mine does that when the battery is low
you don't say you have checked it mine came with a rechargeable, but these only recharge so many times to full. have you tried new batts??

Forgot to state that I bought new batteries (3000 mah) new battery charger, and I eventually got the same result when I borrowed a mains adapter. I think I just answered my own question.
